FAQ
Common China entry questions
Do I need an ICP filing to host a website in China?
Yes, if you host the site inside mainland China or serve it through a mainland CDN. That requires an ICP filing, which normally needs a mainland China entity, and you start it through your hosting or CDN provider. Sites hosted far away often load slowly in China, so measure response times from mainland China first and decide between a nearby CDN and mainland hosting.
Do I need a China entity to advertise on Baidu?
No. You can open a Baidu ads account directly if you have a China entity, otherwise through a local agent. Account setup needs business verification, so plan ahead.
Can an overseas company open a WeChat Official Account?
Yes. Overseas companies without a China entity usually register a Service Account, and a yearly verification fee applies. A China entity can choose a Subscription or Service Account. Gather the documents for registration and verification before you start.
Is Google Analytics reliable for traffic from China?
Not on its own. Google Analytics can under-report visits from mainland China. Add Baidu Tongji, or another China-reachable tool, to your Chinese pages alongside your current analytics.
